ASBO-Boy: CHARACTER LIST

Right, ASBO-Boy is getting to the point now where even I'm beginning to get lost in the tangle of plots and characters. This, I've come to realise, is probably a bad thing. Have no fear though! I've sorted my act out. There is now a big map of Loose Ends and their corresponding solutions sitting by me as I write - Quoth the Raven has seen it, so she can prove that it's true!!!

For those people who are also starting to forget who everyone is/what's happened/help! - here's a handy batch of lists and a little 'previously on' style trailer.

The characters and their corresponding ages:

The ASBOs:
Squeeze - Mike 14
Bark - Alex 15
Arc-Light 15
Malady 12
Flicker 14

The New Elementals:
Beacon 14
Swelter - Kyle 15
Elixir - Liza 15
Siren - Nia 14

The Circus Crowd:
Omen 13
Locus 15
Swarm 14
Spout 14

The Original Elemental Line-up (all 16):
Helix - Locked away in Cefn-Coed
Vue - On the run
Seraph - In a coma
Physic - In a coma
Core - ???

The story so far...

Swansea in the year 2016 is sectioned off into different Wards. These roughly correspond to the areas by which they're known. For example, there's a Sandfields, an Uplands - all that jazz. (I do intend creating a map at some point, watch this space). Teenagers have started developing super-hero-like powers. The authorities have stepped up their game by making the Anti-Social Behavioural Order a social death sentence. Trouble-makers are rounded up and sent to the Borstal facility in the Sandfields. There, the Positive Others (the ones with super-powers) have their abilities capped by a restrictive skin-suit and they are dulled into submission by drugs.

On the flip-side, to further quash any sentiment that the ASBO is some kind of trophy punishment, the authorities created the PROBO, or the Pro-Social Behavioural Order. This rewards the kids who help the police and perform outstanding civic duties. Some of the lucky super-powered 'Others' who are good little kiddies, get to join the Elementals, a group set up and run by the authorities to set an example. They get fancy, colourful suits and leap around the place defending truth, justice and all that jazz.

Our main characters, Mike and Nia, have, since their humble beginnings in the quiet suburb of the Uplands, split off and followed two different paths. Nia (Siren) is part of the Elementals and possesses the ability to act as a catalyst for other Others. Mike (Squeeze) has the ability to bend and manipulate his body; he's currently on the run from the authorities under the unpredictable wing of Gwen.

Gwen works at the Cefn Coed facility where Helix is being held. He's the oldest and most dangerous Other in existence and the leader of the original line-up of Elementals. Two years ago he lost control of his powers and created a radioactive blast site the size of the area of Dyfatty. No one knows what happened that fateful day, but Gwen intends to find out because her brother, one of the original Elementals, is now in a coma.

When Mike and his chums managed to escape the grips of the authorities they were in the company of a chap called Vue - he was also one of the original Elementals and he desperately wants to get back to the Dyfatty site for reasons of his own.

Talk of a cure has been bandied around along with questions as to why all the Others are under sixteen. Wonders and delights are about to be unearthed in the mysterious bunker beneath the Dyfatty ruins...

I've seen nothing. I deny it all. He hasn't even got an ending in mind, he's just making it all up at he goes along...

Damn you woman!

Rumbled, Jommie!

By the way, you know what would be great on this site? A way of accessing each person'a contributions separately, so that you don't get muddled when you're trying to read one particular story, and swamped by all the others. :-)

That is a very good idea. I wonder if it's even possible...

I'll look into it.

The best thing would be to tag the posts with an over-arching story label, I think. So you'd tag these stories with "ASBO-Boy", and there'd be similar tags for "Tonedeaf", "Symbiosis", "Lunar Mist", "Anthropologist" and so on.

I'll do mine right away to show what I mean.

Anyway, I probably shouldn't be reading the comments to a post that's no doubt rife with spoilers for the posts I haven't read.

There should be a part on this site where we can talk like this, too, rather than using the comments section on this particular post.

Hey! The label thing worked! Mine are now all marked with my name and the story title - click on either and you'll be shown just my posts and no one else's. Everyone should do that.

Well - this is embarrassing, I've just had to consult the list because I couldn't remember a character's name.

Good thing it's there really.

This is a good idea- - although all the characters are easy to remember if you've just read the series through from the beginning like I'm doing at the moment.
